Children's Literature
Part of the "Weather Watchers" series, this book teaches the reader all about snow. Information ranges from how snow forms, the shapes of snowflakes, the different kinds of snow, and how scientists predict the weather. Each page is taken up mainly by a drawing of something involving snow and features a few simple sentences of information. Explanations are informative but simple, understandable for the target reader. Having only a few sentences on each page allows the reader to separate the information into parts. The book also challenges the reader to undertake experiments in the snow, suggesting that they inspect the shapes of snow flakes and try to predict the weather. While the book is cute and there is nothing wrong with it, it is not outstanding either. It is informative with nice pictures, but, with no story, it might not completely hold the interest of the reader. At the end of the book, the author includes a table of how snow forms and falls as well as a glossary and index. Reviewer: Melissa Rife
