Library Journal
The last 20 years have seen a greater willingness to acknowledge the Jewishness of Jesus on the part of both Christians and Jews. More scholars and theologians today recognize that the teacher from Nazareth cannot be studied apart from the cultural and religious context of his day. This volume is a scholarly celebration of Jesus' Jewishness, with contributions from an international array of Jewish and Christian scholars. All the selections were originally published elsewhere, although editing has given the book a certain cohesiveness. As the author of two of the book's essays and a substantial annotated bibliography, Charlesworth (Princeton Theological Seminary) dominates this anthology. His skills as an editor, writer, and scholar are evident throughout, and serve to make this collection a moderating influence on New Testament scholarship and a valuable addition to most libraries.-- Mark Stover, California Family Study Ctr., North Hollywood, Cal.Book Details
