About the Author, Fred B. Walters

As a native Philadelphian, Walters was exposed to colonial history early. A career in journalism nurtured his interest in how events shape our lives. His career in journalism was jump-started when he began working for The Associated Press as a writer/reporter in his senior year at the University of Pennsylvania (after three and a half years in the U.S. Navy). Eleven years later, he switched to broadcasting and has been a reporter, editor, and news executive for Metromedia in Philadelphia; for Westinghouse Broadcasting Company (since merged into CBS) in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New York, and Los Angeles; and for ABC at its station in Detroit.
