Lucent's "People in the News" series provides young readers with an up-close and personal view of today's newsmakers. This biography of actor John Travolta includes black and white photographs and an annotated bibliography which would provide facts for the student researcher. Not only does it include three pages of important dates in the life of this screen star, but it also allows us a glimpse of his early years, his personal life, and his climb to success. This biography emphasizes the accomplishments as well as failures that made John Travolta who he is today and brought him fame. Throughout the book, small shaded boxes include nuggets of juicy information about John's career as well as his life off-screen. We are given an insightful look at Travolta in the chapter called "The Versatile Man." Not only is he an actor and pilot, but he has written and illustrated a children's book, Propeller, One-Way Night Coach. In 1984, Travolta also published a fitness book. 2003, Lucent Books/Thomson Learning, Ages 12 to 15.
