Children's Literature

God tells Jonah to go to the people of Nineveh and say that they must change their ways or be punished. Instead, Jonah sails on a ship in the other direction. When a storm threatens to sink the ship and its crew, it is discovered that Jonah is the cause. Jonah is thrown overboard, and the storm abates. Swallowed by a big fish, Jonah stays inside for three days and nights. Jonah prays to God and the fish lets Jonah out near land. God again tells Jonah to go to Nineveh. This time he obeys. "The people in Nineveh listened to Jonah. They began to follow God's laws. And God had mercy on them all." This simple retelling of the Bible story of Jonah covers the first four chapters. This is a Level 2 Reader, which means that it has simple words and sentences for the newest readers. An educator's note to parents gives suggestions for use.
