As with the other books in the "Months of the Year" series, Brode introduces young readers to some of the characteristics, events and activities in the month of July. Since July is part of the summer months and can get really hot in some areas of the world kids are shown in a lot of outdoor activities, and some kids even get to go to camp. Lemonade, ice cream and having fun with the hose are just a few ways to cool off. July 4th is a major holiday it recognizes the day that the United States became a country. Celebrations often include parades, picnic and fireworks, and some of these events are featured in the full-color pictures. The month of July is followed by August. A calendar showing the months of the year and the seasons wraps up the text. Some of the pages have rhetorical questions, which, rather than making it interactive, take away from the book.
