Synopsis

For Bob Valvano, inspiration was given to him from his brother Jim, as it wasfor countless others. Jim Valvano was a man whose life had an unforgettable impact on those who knew him. When he died of cancer on april 28, 1993 after a long, heroic, and very public struggle, his spirit, vibrancy, dreams, and passions did not die with him; they live on in the people he touched.Looking at the lives and through the eyes of the people who loved him most, as the gifts of Jimmy V does, reveals the heart of Jim Valvano present in them all.Through dozens of interviews with family, friends, coaches, players, and colleagues, authors Valvano and hill not only reconstruct the life of this unusual man, but capture the essence of his unique ability to lead, galvanize, inspire, and motivate others. Jim Valvano was a basketball coach for nineteen years, including nine at North Carolina State where he won the national championship in 1983. From 1990-92 he was a commentator for ESPN, and in 1992 won the Ace Award for best commentator/analyst.
