Eleanor Heldrich - Children's Literature
A few grammatical and capitalization errors can be spotted here and there that careful editing should have picked up, but that should not stop either librarians or stores from shelving this nifty book. It is illustrated entirely by amazing photographs which, by their very nature, must have made creating the pop-ups a paper-engineering challenge. The eight spreads are divided into categories: birds, animals, reptiles, butterflies, insects, with frogs and monkeys each having a page of their own. The size of each creature is given and illustrated by placing its silhouette next to that of a six-foot man. Fascinating facts are supplied by the text, but it is the photographs that make this pop-up book so special. 2005, St. Martin's Press/Priddy Books, Ages 5 up.
