Overview
The Fabian Society, with over a century of experience in making strategic, policy relevant interventions, makes the case in Just World for a middle way between unsustainable unfettered free market capitalism and the utopian anti-globalization position of many left and green political movements. This manifesto identifies practical policy proposals and goals around a wide agenda of key issues—democracy and accountability in global governance, fair and sustainable trade, investment and a stable global financial system, the global redistribution of income, security and peace, and culture and community.
Synopsis
This book is one outcome of the project on globalization launched in 2002 by the Fabian Society, the venerable British social democratic organization that still retains some influence in the Labour Party. Collectively, the 14 essays of the book argue for restructuring globalization based upon four pillars drawn from social democratic principles: a new global economic architecture to enable expansionary national economic policies, democratic global governance, equitable trade, and regulation of corporate and governmental action in the global sphere. The essays explore the need for such a restructuring and outline the types of policies that will be needed to achieve it. Distributed in the US by Palgrave Macmillan.
