Synopsis
Burfeind (sociology, U. of Montana) and Bartusch (sociology, Valpariaiso U.) present to criminal justice students examinations of both the classical theories and current research of delinquency. Extended case studies begin each chapter. The text examines the extent of delinquent offenses, the gender, race and class of offenders, and developmental patterns of offending. Also covered are explanations of delinquent behavior, including social structure theories such as family relations, peer group influence and community and subcultures. Finally, the contemporary juvenile justice system's response to delinquency is examined. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
