School Library Journal

Gr 3-5-Divided into five chapters, this title about the ancient empire of the Khmer provides a brief overview of history, daily life, culture, architectural achievements, and early archaeological studies. The text is clearly written but dry and composed of short, choppy sentences. Good-quality, color photographs add examples of architectural features, ruins, performers in period costume, and scenes from contemporary Cambodia. Rounded off with a minimal index and a list of useful Web sites that concentrate on the historic architecture of Angkor, this book may be helpful for reports, but it's a marginal purchase at best.-Cynthia M.
