Synopsis

"MY SCHOOL STARTS in one week soI have SEVEN DAYS to go. Mom says be patient, do not worry. But I can't wait! I'm in a hurry!"

In this delightful book a little girl counts off the days by naming what she'll do in kindergarten. "I'll be ready, I'll be smart. I will get a running start. I'll say thank you, I'll say please. I will say my ABCs!" And deciding what to wear and what to take are all part of her preparation for that exciting first day. With bouncy read-aloud rhyme, bright, fun illustrations, and hidden objects to find on each page, Kindergarten Countdown gets children off on the right foot.

Children's Literature

A young child shows her enthusiasm for school as she counts down the days until the first day of kindergarten begins. This cheerful and uplifting book for very young children makes the prospect of beginning school a little less frightening. Each two page illustration notes the day of the week on the bottom right hand corner while the count off number is shown in the upper left-hand corner. Rhyming text works well for this type of book and adds a rather pleasant sing-song tone to the story if it is read aloud. An interesting reinforcement of counting skills is that the number of items shown in each illustration corresponds to the number of days left. For instance, on the page for five days left, there are five stars in the sky, five cherries in a bowl and five crackers on the table. The book is chock full of many different elements that help to prepare a child for those first unfamiliar days of starting school.
