This book is a collection of contributions of authors from different countries to a wide range of topics in software engineering and in knowledge engineering. Special emphasis is given to application of knowledge-based methods to software engineering problems. The papers, which were selected after a standard refereeing process, tackle some of the major open research issues of the field, such as architecture of software, knowledge and information systems, design patterns, program understanding and learning, domain modelling and data mining.
