Children's Literature - Mary Sue Preissner

Middle school students will find the information presented in this book more than adequate for school reports. From the "Cultures of the World" series, a bevy of illustrations complement the readable text. The formula presentation of this series has worked well, making it a staple in many middle school libraries. The introduction to Kuwait includes its geography, history, government, and economy. Cultural information is presented through variety of topics such as lifestyle, religion, language, arts, leisure, festivals and food. The dependence of Kuwait on other countries for imports and for its economy and defense is explained in detail, as is the various class distinctions within the population. When a subject is explained in monetary terms, the amount is equated to U.S. currency. While the glossary is replete with Kuwaiti terms, the addition words such as expatriates and rentier economy would have been an additional help to readers. Includes map, bibliography, quick notes, glossary, index.
