Reviewer:Josie M. Bowman, DSN, RN(East Carolina University )
Description:This guide to laboratory and diagnostic tests for nurses is divided into sections of lab values, X-rays, CT, MRI, nuclear scans and selected tools (e.g., venipuncture and ECG).
Purpose:This handbook would be useful to students and nurses in various clinical settings.
Audience:It can be used by nurses, nursing students, and other healthcare providers; the author does not clearly state the intended audience. The author is a registered nurse.
Features:The handbook covers lab tests, x-rays and other diagnostic tests or procedures that healthcare professionals would be exposed to in client care. The best aspect is that the information is concise and covers pertinent information of each test. The book is printed on waterproof cards with a spiral binder for easy flipping. The pages can be written on with ballpoint pen and cleaned off with alcohol.
Assessment:The book provides a guide to lab results - values and their significance - and would be useful as a quick reference. I would recommend a copy for all students in nursing or medicine and on hospital units.
