Overview
This paper covers the International Financial Corporation's (IFC's) promotion of the leasing industry in developing countries. The paper is one of a series of reports dealing with capital markets issues, all to be released as part of the IFC's Lessons of Experience series. Chapter 1 looks at the development of leasing world wide and includes its relationship with financial sector development and a discussion on the necessary components and environments for a lease. Chapter 2 examines the IFC's leasing experience and touches on such aspects as: the world wide coverage, mobilization, debt-equity ratios, foreign sponsors and technical partners, the IFC portfolio and its financial performance, regional splits, and performance indicators. IFC's role in promoting leasing is discussed in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 is an evaluation of IFC's leasing experience. The report concludes that the IFC has succeeded in promoting leasing regulations and financing new leasing companies in over half of the developing countries that have a leasing industry today and gives several suggestions for future IFC actions.Book Details
