Leonardo on Art and the Artist

In this thoughtfully prepared presentation, editor Chastel provides an introduction and then systematically groups passages from Leonardo's writings—Notebooks and The Treatise on Painting—supporting the text with some 125 b&w reproductions. Dover does a service to working artists and others by reprinting this 1961 book, which was published under the title The Genius of Leonardo da Vinci (The Orion Press, New York) and was itself a translation of the 1960 book published in French by Libraires de France (Paris).
