Overview

Lesbian Communities: Festivals, RVs, and the Internet takes you inside flourishing communities—physical, spiritual, and virtual (online)—that provide lesbians with practical help, emotional support, and outlets for creative expression. From groups functioning in harmony with mainstream society, to separatist communities and back-to-the-land groups, to “festival communities” and informal online groups, this book offers a ray of light to those whose search for community is still ongoing. It also provides much-needed analysis of the current state of lesbian communities for educators, researchers, and social scientists. Photos and illustrations bring these women and their communities to life.

Synopsis

Sixteen articles describe a diverse array of communities created by and for lesbians. These range from an Internet discussion list for lesbian mothers to the Hallomas land trust in Northern California. Other topics include (for example) an examination of the current role of feminist bookstores and a description of how women enter the lesbian world in Japan. Co-published simultaneously as Journal of Lesbian Studies, v.9, nos.1/2, 2005. Harrington Park Press is an imprint of The Haworth Press. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
