Gr 3-5-These two books introduce common childhood problems, their causes, and some suggestions on how to face and/or solve them. In Needing Extra Help, Kent discusses some of the situations that students might experience, including having different learning styles as well as disabilities. Since the text covers such a broad topic, the information is very general, but could still be helpful to youngsters worried about how they are fitting in. Stuttering explains what may cause speech impediments and who is most likely to stutter and when. The author includes information about how to deal with teasing from peers and also talks about being embarrassed and where to get help. Specific examples are given, including the fact that the actor Bruce Willis had to overcome the problem. Both books include brief indexes that are not particularly helpful. Full-page photographs show children of different ethnic backgrounds and genders in learning situations and with teachers or therapists. These books provide some limited introductory information and could be used to explain differences in mainstreamed classrooms.-Margaret C.
