The emphasis is learning the alphabet and how the combinations of letters make words. There are plenty of ways that kids are encouraged to learn. A special marker pen can be used on the sturdy pages to trace the letters and words. There is also a wheel that can be turned to provide an answer to the question posed. The answer is correct when the color on the inside of the flower matches the outside. The objects are things most kids would encounter—food, toys, actions, and animals. The exercises move from simply tracing the letters alone and in words to matching the words in lists. Kids using these books should already know their alphabet or they would not be able to make much use of them. The lessons progress rapidly, and there is not enough practice of any particular kind to guarantee success. This is part of the "Carry Wipe Clean Wheel Book" series which cautions kids and others to wipe the pages clean within a day of use. There is a cut out which provides the book with a built in handle so it can be carried. It might be a good item for a car or plane trip and also for a rainy day.
