Gr 5-7-Stunning photographs in vibrant color, often placed in sets, illustrate the variety of life found in the sea. The text, which is chock-full of statistics, is printed in an extremely small font with important words highlighted in color. Halfmann concentrates on the tiniest sea creatures such as plankton, algae, sea spiders, coral, and worms; she also discusses bioluminescence and the interdependence of life. Instructions are given for setting up a saltwater aquarium and an activity involving sea monkeys is suggested. Unfortunately, the labels for the photos do not always indicate clearly which animal is shown.
