School Library Journal
Gr 2-4-Two mediocre biographies. Lisa Leslie is an attempt to give young readers some insight into this young athlete/model. The outcome is 28 pages of some suspect information. For example, Dougherty includes a sentence that states that Leslie was six-feet tall when she was in the second grade. Other sources report that she was six-feet tall in the seventh grade. Both biographies are loaded with color photographs of the athletes in action. Tara Lipinski also includes photographs of the young ice-skater enjoying her leisure time. Neither book includes a bibliography or suggestions for further reading. Other titles that are just as good include Mark Stewart's Lisa Leslie (Children's, 1997), Matt Christopher's On the Court with Lisa Leslie (Little, Brown, 1998), Jill Wheeler's Tara Lipinski (ABDO, 1998), and Veda Boyd Jones's Tara Lipinski (Chelsea, 1997).-Barb Lawler, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, PA Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
