Synopsis

It's a week before Christmas and Little Robin has everything ready, including a nice warm vest for each frosty day. But Little Robin didn't count on meeting seven chilly friends, and his generosity gets the best of him as he shares his vests with the animals he meets. With no vest left for himself, poor little Robin huddles on an icy roof ... until someone very special comes to the rescue.

Children's Literature

Little Robin has seven vests and each day during the week before Christmas, he gives one away to a person needier than he is. Finally vestless on the snowy cold night and far from home, Robin falls asleep. Santa, who observed his selflessness, picks him up and takes him back to Mrs. Claus who knits a little red vest. On his way home, Robin encounters a man who cries out "Merry Christmas Little Robin Redbreast!" A bit of a pourquoi tale, a play on words, and the spirit of Christmas are all rolled together into one book. The illustrations are amusing and have charm, but the word play may float over the heads of the very youngest listeners.
