A history and reference guide to the live dramas that aired on television beginning in the late 1940s. Hawes (communications, U. of Houston) notes that many observers consider this the golden age of TV drama, comparable to the early, experimental years of cinema. His study examines the heritage of TV drama in decades that are recent chronologically but eons ago culturally. Appendices list the day-by-day program logs for BBC, CBS, and NBC dramas for the period. The work includes about two dozen b&w stills and a detailed, 58-page index. Annotation c.
