School Library Journal

Gr 5-8-- The background and investigation of the explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21, 1988, over Lockerbie, Scotland, is accurately outlined in this thin volume. From the peaceful description of Lockerbie before the crash, to the narrative introductions to several passengers, to the painstaking investigation that followed, the tone and style are serious, yet lively and interesting. Airline error is not overlooked, as some detail is given about the breach of security at Pan Am before and measures that have been taken since the crash. Some extra explanations about airport security and radar are included in boxed insets. The numerous black - and -white photographs are of average quality. A good source for reports on this disaster, as well as an added source about terrorism and airline security. --Marilyn Long Graham, Lee County Library System, Fort Myers, FL
