Gr 7-10--Looking Good . . . is a typical diet advice book, with a complete, but fairly dry discussion of such topics as the physiology of obesity, commercial weight loss programs, fad diets, eating disorders, proper weight control, and exercise. The emphasis is on ``sensible,''although the diabetic exchange diet that has been used successfully and safely by many who are not diabetic is not included. A table of the caloric content of some common foods is appended. Three types of diets are described in The Vegetarian Teen , with repeated emphasis on the need for a balanced diet regardless of which regimen is followed. Included are hints for implementing a vegetarian lifestyle and a section of meatless recipes, most of which sound appetizing and easy to prepare. Stress is on vegetarianism as a healthy lifestyle with preference left to the individual. A few charts are included to break up the text. Both books will be useful for reports; there are many other titles available on nutrition and diet, but few that deal exclusively with vegetarianism for teens. --Lois McCulley, Wichita Falls High School, TXBook Details
