Overview

Stories in the Travelman Short Stories series take the reader to places of mystery, fantasy, horror, romance, and corners of the universe yet unexplored. In turn, readers take them on the bus or subway, slip them into briefcases and lunchboxes, and send them from Jersey to Juneau. Each classic or original short story is printed on one sheet of paper and folded like a map. This makes it simple to read while commuting, convenient to carry when not, and easy to give or send to a friend. A paper envelope is provided for mailing or gift-giving, and both are packaged in a clear plastic envelope for display. The cost is not much more than a greeting card.

Synopsis

Review ''Wilde's usual cutting wit and upper-class urban setting is combined with a rather dark undercurrent…A chilling tone, as men set out to murder, women sacrifice themselves secretly, and literary passion turns deadly.'' --The Literary Omnivore ''(Audiobook narrator) Jacobi brings listeners directly into the parlors or manor houses of each story. Using vocal color and tone, he effortlessly describes the scenes and the characters - not as an outside observer, but as an unseen guest, perfectly at ease with the manner of the times. With equal ease, he delivers Wilde's satire, revealing the wit that makes the author's work endure.'' --AudioFile Product Description The three stories in this book are about ordinary people, people like you and me; but they find themselves in surprising situations. Lord Arthur Savile, a rich man with no enemies, finds out that he must do something terrible before he can marry. Poor young Hughie Erskine gives money to an old beggar but the beggar is not what he seems. And Lord Murchison falls in love with a mystery woman but what is the strange secret behind the door in Cumnor Street? About the Author, Oscar Wilde

The ever-quotable Oscar Wilde once said, "Anybody can make history. Only a great man can write it." From his outsize celebrity in Victorian London to his authorship of fiction, drama, and poetry that uniquely captured his era, it's fair to say that Wilde succeeded on both counts.
