PreS-These bold-colored books with simple pictures teach basic concepts. The first book introduces words associated with clothing, toys, animals, home, parks, food, and everyday activities. The second book tackles colors and opens with a bunny climbing into bowls of red, blue, and yellow paint. The playful creature then hops from bowl to bowl, mixing red and yellow to make orange; red and blue to make purple; blue and yellow to make green; and red, blue, and yellow to make brown. The series' third book focuses on counting. Each page is filled with attractive objects that help forge the connection between the number of items shown and the corresponding number between one and 10. All three books have excellent pictures that allow for vocabulary building and for children's "rereading" the books on their own. Parents, teachers, and librarians will find these attractive and age-appropriate books easy to use. Recommended for libraries and bookstores.

Children's Literature

When White Bunny discovers three buckets of paint—red, yellow, and blue—she decides to experiment with the combination of colors. When her curiosity is not satisfied after being coated with the sunny yellow shade, she quickly hops in the red bucket as well. At this point the young bunny learns that yellow and red make orange. After a quick shower, White Bunny decides to try the red first before jumping in the cold looking blue bucket. After this effort, she ascertains that red and blue equal purple. Excited to try again, she showers and leaps into the blue again and then into the yellow—green! Much to White Bunny's surprise when she tries to shower the color off a third time, she discovers that all the water is gone. Only a little bit of red paint remains, so she hops into it, and notices she has turned a beautiful, perfect shade of brown. Simple and colorful illustrations include only the bunny, the shower, and the three buckets of paint, and the text and concepts presented in this book would be ideal in any pre-school or kindergarten classroom, especially as a lead-in to an art lesson. 2003 (orig. 2002), Kingfisher,
