Some people remember Louis Pasteur for the pasteurization process used to keep food fresh longer. Some remember him as the inventor of the rabies vaccine. What they may not know is that Pasteur studied to be a science teacher after he became interested in his science classes in high school. His vaccines were created while studying germs that were killing animals. During an experiment, germs were accidentally weakened before they were given to the animals. Since the animals did not die as the earlier test subjects had, he gave them an injection of full strength germs. When the animals did not get sick, he knew he was on to something. The world owes a large debt to a man who was driven by the untimely early deaths of three daughters. This is a unique, simple book laid out with photos on every other page alternating with text. It should be an easy to follow format for students. This book is part of the "Photo-Illustrated Biographies" series. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 10 up.
