About the Author, Rumi
Rumi, the great bard of Sufism, was born in Persia in 1211. He became one the greatest poets and spiritual thinkers of his era, composing thousands of poems that continue to be chanted on pilgrimages and at religious ceremonies. A celebrated mystic, Rumi founded the Mevlevi order, which spread throughout the Islamic world after his death in 1273. Lassaâd Metoui, a Tunisian by birth, exhibits widely and lectures on Arabic and Latin calligraphy. Jean-Claude Carriere is best known for his work as a screenwriter and collaborator with director Luis Buñuel; he is also the author of acclaimed works of fiction and nonfiction, including The Power of Buddhism, cowritten with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
