Children's Literature
Part of the "We Both Read" series, this easy reader is an excellent choice for interactive reading for parent and child. Each spread has one page dedicated to story text that the parent can read aloud, and the opposite page has two simple words printed in a large bold-faced type for beginning readers to practice their reading skills. In this story, young Lulu the ladybug is hurrying off to school when she realizes she has forgotten her shoes and does not know where she left them. She looks by the tree and asks the bees and a frog but nobody has seen her shoes. The school bus arrives and Lulu's mother asks if the driver can wait for Lulu to find her shoes. The driver agrees but then all the other insects on the bus decide to invade Lulu's house and help her search for her shoes. The illustrations are colorful and filled with fun details like the flowerpot that Lulu's family lives in and the pocket watch set on a spool of thread that is their kitchen table. 2004, Treasure Bay, Ages 5 to 6.βJennifer Chambliss
