Dunn and Harris (political theory & politics at Cambridge & Leicester) have assembled critical essays on Machiavelli from the journal literature and other works ranging from Macaulay's "Machiavelli", in the "Edinburgh Review, 1827" to Osmond's piece, "Sallust and M..." in the "Journal of Medieval and Renaissance Studies, 1993". Most papers are in English. Aside from a brief introduction there is no editorial comment upon the writings. Authors include Merleau-Ponty, Voegelin, F. Gilbert, B. Croce, L. Strauss, G. Mattingly. The editors have chosen commentary to display high scholarship, cover diverse schools of thought, and to give attention to the principal concerns of the classical thinkers. Most papers are printed in facsmile. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
