School Library Journal
K-Gr 5-- Two volumes that will attract both children and their caregivers. Full-color photographs and clearly written instructions lead readers into and through the creative process. While the directions for the 11 projects outlined in each volume are specific enough for primary-grade children and utilize easily obtainable materials, they are open-ended enough to inspire individual creativity. Warnings for seeking out adult assistance are appropriately noted, and do not intrude. Joan Irvine's How to Make Pop-Ups (Morrow, 1988) offers a more complete version of one of the crafts offered in Gifts. While few of the entries are new or exciting, they offer alternatives for those needing a variety of ideas in single volumes. --Carole D. Fiore, S tate Library of Florida, TallahasseeBook Details
