Synopsis
A freelance typographic designer who is mainly interested in books, Bartram contrasts the radical changes in book design since the end of World War II, particularly in response to economic and technological changes, with the enduring values of elegance and readability. He sets the current publishing scene in the context of the best practice of the past half century. His book is 10.5" deep to accommodate the many illustrations, which are monochrome. He has not provided an index or bibliography. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
