Crook's Basketmaking is a well-illustrated and detailed guide to traditional British baskets of willow, rush, and other natural materials. Individual chapters cover tools, materials, and techniques with nine step-by-step projects. The line drawings of weaving patterns are particularly good. LaFerla's collection of projects by many designers is in complete contrast. These colorful contemporary baskets utilize such unlikely materials as colored telephone wire, cut-up cereal boxes, and plastic tubing. A section of weaving basics is included, but it would be advisable to have some basketmaking experience before taking on some of these projects. Both books would be useful for crafts collections needing more basket material. Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
