Brown, who died in 1961, was a noted educator, lecturer, and social activist. Mammy (1919), one of her few works of fiction, was addressed primarily to white women and was intended as an appeal to Southern whites to take some responsibility for the educational betterment of blacks. The Correct Thing (1941) is a guide to manners that grew out of Brown's belief that gracious behavior would succeed in earning respect for her race. One of a projected 31-volume series. No index. Paper edition (unseen), $14.95. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)Book Details
