Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Allen D. Seftel, MD(Case Western Reserve University)
Description:The eight chapters in this brief book on male erectile dysfunction are divided amongst the physiology, etiology, assessment, treatment planning, first-line interventions, and second-line interventions.
Purpose:This is a concise and practical guide to the management of patients with erectile dysfunction in clinical practice.
Audience:The book is intended for primary care clinicians and for residents in urology.
Features:This is a basic book of erectile physiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment. It is concise, direct and to the point, well written and easy to read. The figures and pictures nicely complement the text. Newer areas, such as the relationship between ED and cardiovascular disease, are touched upon only briefly.
Assessment:This book supplants two slightly outdated books (Blackwell's Primary Care Essentials: Urology, Ellsworth and Rous (Blackwell, 2001) and Fast Facts: Sexual Dysfunction, Plaut et al. (Health Press Ltd, 2004)) in that it provides up-to-date, timely information.
