Gr 7-12-- A thorough, detailed, up-to-date biography of the previous British prime minister. Moskin is at her best in integrating information on British politics--past prime ministers, Parliament, political parties, and 10 Downing Street--and in presenting a well-balanced analysis of Thatcher's theories and policies. On the minus side, she omits many personal notes, quotations, and descriptions, resulting in a rather dry approach, accompanied by serviceable black-and-white photographs. The book also has several errors. Hughes's Madam Prime Minister (Dillon, 1989) is more casual and easier to read, but contains some fictionalizing and a few errors. Moskin's offering, despite its flaws, stands alone in its currency and useful background material, and will be a helpful addition to most libraries. --Ann W.
