Overview
This book contains the proceedings of the first international conference on Maritime Heritage, which will be held on the island of Malta, March 24-26, 2003.
The International Conference on Maritime Heritage is a new initiative stemming from a series of conferences originating from the need to bring together different parties interested in issues of heritage and development at an international level. While other WIT conferences have concentrated on specific issues such as repairs and maintenance or development, this new conference focuses on the state of the art technology and the most up to date discoveries to be applied to the preservation of our maritime heritage.
Maritime Heritage 2003 will make an important contribution to recent advances in research and up to date studies of buildings, vessels and diverse artifacts, and all aspects related to maritime heritage. This is important, as there is a shortage of guidance in the form of books, codes of practice and other material.
Topics covered include: Heritage Architecture; Maritime HIstory; Cultural Heritage Issues; Lighthouses and Dockyards; Historic Harbours and Ports; Wooden Ship Preservation; Underwater Heritage; Shipwrecks; Contributions on Archaeology; Rivers and Lakes Heritage; Material Sciences and Preservation; Historic Ships and Vessels; Earthquake and Vibration Problems; Marine Sciences, Including Biological Processes; Surveying Techniques; rtual Reality as a Marine Archaeology Tool; Computer Simulation; Heritage Education and Tourism; Maritime Heritage Parks and Museums; Legislation and Site Protection.
