Gr 2-4-- A brief overview of the history of the holiday and how it came into existence, as well as background on the life of King himself. The biographical information fills most of the book and is fairly basic: boyhood, education, and leadership roles in the civil rights movement. The chapters related to the holiday, while short in number and size, do provide the pertinent facts. Full-color and black-and-white photographs and drawings reinforce the text, which is more informative than Fox's About Martin Luther King Day (Enslow, 1989) and Parker's What Is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day?
