Selected by bestselling author Joey Green, a collection of 400 quotes by Marx and Lennon, juxtaposed to reveal their hilarious similarities

No, not THAT Marx and Lenin! Here's a much funnier and artistically talented pair from history. Revolutionaries in their own rights, John Lennon and Groucho Marx did not share much common ground with their Communist namesakes, or even with each other. Where they do overlap is through their very humorous and irreverent takes on life. Editor Joey Green brings together a collection of more than 400 Groucho Marx and John Lennon sayings, juxtaposed to emphasize their hysterical and unexpected similarities.

One for all and all for me and me for you and three for five and six for a quarter. —Groucho Marx, The Cocoanuts

I am me as you are he as you are me and we are all together. —John Lennon, I Am the Walrus

Believe me, you've got to get up early if you want to get out of bed. —Groucho Marx, The Cocoanuts

Insomnia was cured by putting people to sleep. —John Lennon, Skywriting by Word of Mouth

Library Journal

Not Karl Marx and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin-Groucho Marx and John Lennon! In this small volume, Green (Joey Green's Amazing Kitchen Cures) collects some 400 (mostly) humorous quotes from the pair and juxtaposes them on each page. Some of the juxtapositions are thematic-e.g., women, money, cats-while others are just serendipitous turns of phrase. Some are surreal; others prosaic. And though these two artists didn't actually have much in common, their quotes are beautifully paralleled here (e.g., Marx's "One for all and all for me and me for you and three for five and six for a quarter" is juxtaposed with Lennon's "I am me as you are he as you are me and we are all together"). Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, has written the foreword while Marx's son, Arthur, has contributed the introduction. This is an interesting and inexpensive gift book for bathroom readers, quote-lovers, or fans of either one of these two men; otherwise, an optional purchase for the humor section of public libraries.-Terren Ilana Wein, Univ. of Chicago Divinity Sch.
