An excellent account of the various issues confronting Marxist theory at the end of the 20th century.Booknews
Disagreeing with Fukuyama and others that declared the death of Marxism and the "end of history," Munck (sociology, U. of Liverpool, UK) attempts to construct a Marxism that incorporates elements of its past with observations of today's political realities and with newer perspectives of feminism, ecology, and cultural criticism. Not adverse to radical transformations of Marxist thought, such as de-centering the worker from the analysis of the overthrow of capitalism, Munck doesn't attempt to create a comprehensive construct, preferring to visit problems of nationalism, feminism, and the like as pointers for a number of paths that Marxism should be pointed down.
