Description:This review book was written to help medical students and physicians prepare for the new USMLE Step 2 CS examination. It covers the examination format, appropriate preparation for the examination, and reiterates success strategies. Typical case scenarios are presented and discussed.
Purpose:Since this examination is new, students need guidance on the preparation to acquire some comfort level with the standardized patient encounter.
Audience:Although the book is specifically meant for those sitting for the examination, the more than 50 practice cases and discussions that follow are excellent teaching cases for students to use during their clinical rotations.
Features:The book reviews the important elements that will be tested. Discrete advice is given with respect to communication skills, time management, content of both the physical examination and subsequent patient note. By detailing the learning objectives for each practice case, students can sharpen their overall skills while gauging their knowledge base and clinical judgment.
Assessment:This workbook provides the student opportunities to simulate the interactive examination format without the presence of a simulated patient. By systematic review of key strategies in each practice case, the book will help the reader develop much greater familiarity with the test format and content.
