Maria Otero-Boisvert, "Criticas" - Criticas
PreS-K-The lilting text and the enchanting illustrations of this jewel of a book conspire to weave a magical spell over readers. The protagonist, a brown-spotted rabbit, shares with readers all the reasons why he loves his little storybook. Besides being filled with fairies and giants and a sleeping beauty who waits for her prince, the book takes him to different places in his imagination, such as magic forests where he can visit old friends like the lion. But best of all, the rabbit can come and go from these places whenever he wishes. Mlawer has done an exceptional job of translating Jeram's dreamy text. Despite the absence of an actual plot line, this heartfelt tribute to reading and the imagination will reverberate with the intended audience. The pen-and-ink illustrations, softly tinted with watercolors, are delicate and delightful. A wonderful selection for story time, this book is highly recommended for schools, public libraries, and bookstores.
