Children's Literature

Size is the concept presented in this colorful book. A variety of words to designate size are introduced (big, small, long, short, and so forth). A ruler with both inches and centimeters runs across the bottom of a spread. A little girl is standing next to a wall having her height measured. Weight is described, as is the accumulation of like objects to demonstrate the increased weight. Pictures show like-objects but they have different weights and unlike objects that contain the same amount of liquid. The capacity of a bucket, suitcase and tanker truck are also introduced. There is an index and three-book bibliography. Part of the "Let's Explore" series. 2001, Gareth Stevens, $21.26. Ages 7 to 9. Reviewer:Marilyn Courtot
