Children's Literature

A marginal addition to the "Healthy Me" series, this book has some serious shortcomings, beginning with the fact that protein is not defined until page 12 of a 24 page book. Different types of meat are defined as coming from specific animals (beef from cows, poultry from chickens, etc.) and briefly described. Meat processing receives a one-line mention. A short chapter also describes the food groups and their role in human nutrition. While it has very nice photographs, it is lacking in sufficient content. This is a superficial treatment of the subject at best. Included are a recipe for peanut butter balls, a very brief glossary and index. 2004, Smart Apple Media, Ages 4 to 7.
