From The Critics
Reviewer: Myrtle Edwards, MA(Private Practice)Description: This book gives the entry level student complete information about working in a physician's office as a medical assistant. Pictures and diagrams are precise and complete.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide students with information about all aspects of medical assisting, which includes administrative and clinical procedures. The book also includes case studies and procedures, thus giving students a sense of participation in an office environment. The book demonstrates, through repeated photos and diagrams, what a medical assistant does.
Audience: This book is targeting students who have no prior medical education. The authors, a mixture of RNs and MAs, are credible.
Features: The book covers administrative and clinical competencies, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, and laboratory procedures, all things a medical assistant needs to know to work in a physician's office. Anatomy and physiology is covered the best, with case studies and very good diagrams and pictures of the body systems. The review section at the end of each chapter is very complete, and at an entry level for the new student. Throughout the book the illustrations and pictures are true and clear.
Assessment: I am impressed with the amount of information this book contains. It seems to cover everything a medical assistant may encounter in an office setting.
