Design writer Bradbury (New Country Houses) features 25 houses in countries along the Mediterranean coast in his first book in a new series. Through color photographs, floor plans, and text, he describes how the architect and owner worked together to create a home suited to the inhabitants' lifestyle and incorporating the primary feature of each setting, e.g., the sea. Interior photographer von Einsiedel and Thornycroft (coauthors, The Provencal House) give a one-page description of primarily London abodes, their inhabitants, and their decorating choices, followed by captionless color photographs. Neither book is intended as a how-to, but both succeed in showing various modern decorating styles. Both are recommended for large professional and academic collections.
