Overview

Endless sun, sparkling sea, crystalline sky—these are the key elements of Mediterranean living. From southern Spain to northern Africa, from Greece to the Côte d’Azur, here are twenty-five contemporary houses from around the Mediterranean Sea.

The book includes work by internationally established architects,
such as Alberto Campo de Baeza and Carlos Ferrater, and houses created by a number of the region’s rising stars. The houses differ in their locations and styles but are united by clean lines, open floor plans, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

A fusion of interior style and architecture, of glorious natural landscapes and bold man-made forms, Mediterranean Modern will appeal to design aficionados as well as practicing architects and designers.

Synopsis

Innovative architecture and contemporary lifestyles: architect-designed houses and interiors capture the new design aesthetic of one of the world's most seductive regions.

From southern Spain to northern Africa, from Greece to the Côte d'Azur, here are twenty-five new houses from around the Mediterranean Sea for which one architect has conceived both the building and the interior design. The houses differ in their locations and styles but are united by clean lines, open floor plans, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

The book includes work by internationally established architects, such as Alberto Campo de Baeza and Carlos Ferrater, as well as houses created by a number of the region's rising stars, little known outside their native countries. All reveal a wealth of cool ideas for hot climates.

With straightforward texts, appealing photographs, and helpful plans, Mediterranean Modern will appeal to design aficionados as well as practicing architects and designers. 300 illustrations, 250 in color.

Library Journal

These books show homes and apartments with modern, contemporary designs. Design writer Bradbury (New Country Houses) features 25 houses in countries along the Mediterranean coast in his first book in a new series. Through color photographs, floor plans, and text, he describes how the architect and owner worked together to create a home suited to the inhabitants' lifestyle and incorporating the primary feature of each setting, e.g., the sea. Interior photographer von Einsiedel and Thornycroft (coauthors, The Provencal House) give a one-page description of primarily London abodes, their inhabitants, and their decorating choices, followed by captionless color photographs. Neither book is intended as a how-to, but both succeed in showing various modern decorating styles. Both are recommended for large professional and academic collections.
