Gr 1 Up-- After a brief recollection about her first cats, Ivory introduces all of her cats one by one. She describes how each arrived and some of its habits and activities to convey its distinctive personality and role in the household. The book is beautifully written in a personal, descriptive style that makes the cats seem interesting individuals, and shows Ivory's affection for cats in general and in particular. The illustrations are finely crafted, with rich detail, attractive composition, lush color, and a variety of settings. Each double-page spread is devoted to a cat or pair of cats, and gives a portrait of the cats and one or more action pictures. The cover is a cat family portrait, and lush endpapers are designed as a portrait gallery. While the greatest appeal of this book will be to cat lovers, others will find themselves drawn into the book by its warmth and by its beautiful, compelling illustrations. --Jane Gardner Connor, formerly at South Carolina State Library, ColumbiaBook Details
