Description: In 2002, Bradford Health of Men Services was awarded a significant grant from the New Opportunities Fund to set up a Healthy Living Centre for men's health. The goal of this group was to develop innovative men's health services for some of the most difficult to reach segments of society. This book presents information about identifying, creating, and delivering health care for men based on their years of research.
Purpose: The purpose is to assist anyone involved with the set-up and delivery of health services aimed at men and boys. The ultimate goal is to improve the availability, accessibility and usability of healthcare for men. Traditionally, men are difficult to engage in healthcare and this book provides practical information and advice in improving the structure for men's healthcare.
Audience: The audience includes anyone who wants to find out how to successfully set up and deliver health services aimed at men and boys. The information would be useful to all healthcare professionals such as nursing and medical students, teachers, youth leaders, and healthcare policy makers who need a clearer understanding of men's health and health promotion issues. The editors and contributors all have significant experience in the field of men's health.
Features: The first of the book's three sections is an overview of the Bradford Health of Men Project. The second provides practical information about addressing a variety of health needs of men and boys. The third section gives a personal account of how the Health of Men Project grew and developed. This guide to men's health includes many helpful features such as warning boxes, handy hints, and info boxes.
Assessment: This is a worthwhile addition to the literature. It provides a clear, concise guide with practical approaches for the development of men's health programs. Health promotion and wellness teaching are strong components of this book.
